“The Spectrum On The Other Side” is not only a performance exploring the intricate relationships between emotion, technology, and submission—it is also a provocation: When technology deeply intervenes in our connections, does virtual taming alter our understanding of relationships? In an age where the digital and the real intertwine, how do we adapt, choose, or even resist the invisible forces of control?
When the restraints fall away—are we truly free?
Entanglement is an immersive performance that weaves together performance art, new media technology, and theatrical language. Centered around the theme of "entanglement and taming in relationships," the work begins with the transformation of human connection in a post-pandemic world, questioning whether virtual interaction has become a new form of emotional reliance. As the boundaries between the digital and the physical blur, we are caught in a constant tension between adaptation, dependence, and resistance. Has this state of “entanglement” already reshaped our fundamental understanding of human relationships?
Evolving from the artist's past experiments in performance art, this piece adopts a more narrative-driven approach through the quiet intensity of “silent theatre.” Tape serves as the primary medium—symbolizing connection, restraint, and relational tension. Audiences interact directly with performers through actions like pulling, sticking, and tearing, creating immediate, tangible engagement. Multi-channel real-time visuals and sound design, in combination with wearable sensors, transmit performers’ heartbeats, body movements, and audience interaction data into the system—driving live changes in sound and imagery, making each performance a one-of-a-kind generative experience.
The performance begins in a haze of mist and a slow, awakening heartbeat. As the tension and tearing of tape grow louder, the audience's senses are heightened and emotions drawn into a web of unresolved entanglement. In the end, only one figure remains on stage—wandering alone, picking up remnants in silence between whispers and struggles—leaving behind a lingering resonance and an unanswered question: When all restraints are gone, are we truly free?
The Spectrum On The Other Side is not merely a visual and auditory feast—it is a journey of body, emotion, and reflection. We sincerely invite you to become part of this work and step into this exploration of relationships across virtual and physical realms. In a world enshrouded by technology, let us rediscover what connection, understanding, and freedom truly mean.

Cheng Yu Chen
This performance is a collaborative creation by Zheng Yuchen and Guo Pinqi, showcasing a profound dialogue and creative synergy between interdisciplinary artists.
Zheng Yuchen possesses expertise in fine arts and theater, with a long-standing focus on the relationships between the body, behavior, and community. He specializes in using the language of performance art to explore the power dynamics and perceptual states of individuals in contemporary society. Since entering Taipei National University of the Arts, he has actively taken cross-departmental courses, dedicating himself to interdisciplinary fusion and multi-sensory creative practices. His works often originate from life experiences, touching emotional depths, and carry strong immediacy and impact. Each of his performance pieces frequently sparks widespread resonance and discussion among audiences.
Guo Pinqi centers his work on real-time audio-visual creation, focusing on the integration of sound, interactive visuals, and programming applications. He excels in connecting various software and hardware technologies, covering graphic design, 3D animation, game development, sound design, and stage control. His creations often start from the small details of everyday life, combining critical perspectives and an experimental spirit to build dynamic, open, and multilayered viewing experiences between audio-visuals and performance.
This work, The Spectrum on the Other Side, is their first collaborative debut performance and a condensed presentation of their long-term reflections and experiments on "body, technology, and the flow of power." Through the interplay of wearable devices, real-time sensing, audio-visual systems, and performance language, the audience is guided into a layered, immersive emotional space, experiencing the formation and rupture of relationships between participation and observation. This performance is not only a demonstration of technical integration but also a reflection—when technology deeply intervenes in connections, does virtual domestication alter our understanding of relationships?
