Modern Troupe Blossoming from the Land: Golden Bough Theatre

Lecture/Talk/Seminar
2024-07-07 - 2024-07-07

Hailed as the most down-to-earth "Taiwanese clique" theater troupe, the Golden Bough Theatre Company is a unique landscape in Taiwanese theater. With a performance aesthetic that blends Taiwanese slang and Hu Pie (a type of Taiwanese opera makeup), they insist that the most touching culture stems from the land and believe that extreme ordinariness is beauty. They have pioneered a strong theatrical style originating from the grassroots of popular culture, characterized by splendid yet freely exuberant styles. Within the realm of Taiwanese arts and culture, they repeatedly venture into the unknown, carving out new boundaries and pathways, inviting audiences to join them on their adventures.

This session of sharing will take the audience deep into the modern theater troupe's journey of wandering, and through a brilliant and in-depth exploration of Golden Bough's works, we will witness their journey of self-discovery. We will see how they have grown from their homeland, producing unique artistic flowers that belong to this land, embodying Taiwan's most resilient vitality
