Renowned choreographer Mathilde Monnier, who has long engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations with philosophy, literature, theater, and music, will share her creative principles, philosophical reflections, and the social implications behind her works. She will engage in an in-depth conversation with Taipei Arts Festival curator River Lin to discuss her latest piece, Black Light. This talk will offer the audience a comprehensive perspective on this great dancer, shedding light on Monnier’s choreographic philosophy and revealing how she uses dance to illuminate glimmers of hope within dark narratives.

 

 

Mathilde Monnier
Mathilde Monnier born in 1959, has been art director of Centre Chorégraphique National Montpellier - Occitanie for 20 years. From 2014 to 2019, she directed the CND Centre national de la danse, which had been converted into an art center for dance. In 2019, she created Please Please Please with La Ribot and Tiago Rodrigues. Her latest piece, created in 2021, is entitled RECORDS. She has received several awards,such as the Ministry of Culture prize at the Bagnolet competition in 1983, Grand Prix SACD in 2002, and Knight of the Legion of Honour in 2013.

 

River Lin
Working with Live Art, dance, and queer culture, Paris-based Taiwanese artist River Lin is Curator of the Taipei Arts Festival, ADAM, Camping Asia and Curatoké: Performance Curator Academy at the Taipei Performing Arts Center. He is also Co-Curator of the Indonesian Dance Festival, Guest-Curator of the 2025 Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, and Guest Co-Editor for the OnCurating's Special Issue. His artistic work has been presented internationally by Centre Pompidou, Centre National de la Danse, Live Art Prize, M+ Museum, and Taipei Fine Arts Museum among others.
