"Heard that Director Li has left the company: An Umbrella Left Behind in the Music”

Speaker|George Chen, waa wei
Host|River Lin

If M's writings are filled with speculation and rebellion, then the one thing that can most soften him is probably music. In his younger years, M made a living by selling music. After work, his desk was adorned with Chekhov's scripts and Jimmy Liao's picture books. At the end of "Uncle Vanya," Sonya says, "We shall rest. We shall hear the angels. We shall see heaven shining like a jewel. We shall see all evil and all our pain sink away in the great compassion that shall enfold the world." Jimmy's musicals might just be M's utopia. He has poured his most childlike, fantastical verses into his musical theater, continuously singing about dreams, love, hope, and regret. Three influences have touched the depths of his heart: the melodies of Chen Chien-Chi, the confessions of Waa Wei, and the lyrics of poet Hsia Yu, who writes under the pseudonym Li Ge Di. What kind of M did they see? And how did they forge these songs?
