La Bulle is so polished as to appear to have emerged from the realm of ideas as a finished whole, dancing on a tightrope balanced between joy and melancholy.” - Noah J Nelson, No Proscenium

“Mr. Danzon is a gifted performer, and the elegant silence in his sleek movements hooked me immediately and I allowed him to take me on a metaphysical journey of lights, colour, and sound.” - Joe Szekeres, on stage blog

La bulle features a one-of-a-kind bubble tent, a character in its own right, and its confined inhabitant, Pierrot, the iconic loner and dreamer. Together, they live in transparent symbiosis.

In this theatrical setting, there is nowhere to hide: an absurd situation, fully exploited by Pierrot, the lucid and lunar character. Through mime, dance, text, and even drawing, he tries to connect with his audience. Dressed in the archetypal black and white costume and make-up, he manages to create bonds, alas all ephemeral, with those who are willing to give him a little time. He embraces solitude wholeheartedly, swimming freely like a fish in the realm of dreams. Poetry and humour accompany him, true to CORPUS’ vocation.

La bulle was conceived long before COVID. The show was already exploring the theme of social distancing well before it became a universal concern. This new work also addresses an equally contemporary paradox: private space in full transparency.

La bulle places the audience in the round, allowing them to be seated or free to circulate around the set without constraint.

Performing Group

CORPUS
Co-founded by Sylvie Bouchard and Artistic Director David Danzon, CORPUS is known for its precise and surrealist humour that combines movement with theatrical imagery.

CORPUS’ unique and engaging performances are presented in both traditional and unusual locations for large and diverse audiences. Created in 1997, CORPUS now has 15 pieces in its repertoire and has presented over 2500 performances at venues and events across Canada and around the world in 35 countries on six continents.

CORPUS is particularly acclaimed in Japan where the company has performed annually since 2008.

CORPUS’ work can also be seen on television and on film. The Bravo! FACT
short Peep Show has been programmed in over 50 film festivals around the world and won the Audience Award at Cinedans (Netherlands) in 2004. CORPUS also cocreated with Treehouse TV, 4-square, a popular educational television series for pre-schoolers.

Several of CORPUS’ productions have been nominated for Dora Mavor Moore awards, lastly in 2022 when “Divine Interventions” and “La bulle” were nominated in 6 different categories. In 2002, CORPUS was the recipient of the Prix Hommage for Arts awarded by the Fédération Culturelle Canadienne Française. In 2001, CORPUS was also the gold-medal winner at the IV Games of la francophonie (Street Theatre category) with A Flock of Flyers.

In 1993, Sylvie Bouchard created Dusk Dances, a summer outdoor dance festival, which takes place in urban public parks. In 1996, Bouchard and Danzon partnered to produce the festival annually. Dusk Dances was produced by CORPUS for 8 years.

Dusk Dances, now an independent entity, is one of the most popular events in Toronto and Ontario.

In 2024, CORPUS proudly celebrates its 27th anniversary.
