Daniel Hellmann

 

Daniel Hellmann is a dance and theater maker, singer and performer from Zürich, Switzerland. He studied philosophy at the University of Zurich, singing at the HEMU Lausanne and theater/performance at the HKB Bern. Since 2012, Hellmann has been creating pieces in changing collaborations with his association 3art3, which interweave performance, language, music and movement in a multi-layered way. Hellmann’s works investigate bodies, bodily relations and desire, and question social norms in the fields of sexuality, human and animal rights. Hellmann's performances have received multiple awards, including the 2015 June Johnson Dance Prize, and invitations to major platforms such as Sélection Suisse en Avignon 2015 (Traumboy), Swiss Selection Edinburgh 2019 (Traumboy & Traumgirl), and Swiss Dance Days 2019 (Requiem for a piece of meat).

Since 2018, Hellmann has been performing with his alter ego Soya the Cow, a vegan drag cow, and as Soya has released the solo piece Dear Human Animals (2020), the music album Purple Grass (2021) and several music videos, as much as the exhibition project Planet Moo (2022) and the art walk Try Walking in My Hooves (2022), which has been selected for the Swiss Theater Encounter in 2023.
