Gok-Lim Finch

Gok-Lim is a queer, non-binary artist with Hokkien/Cantonese ancestry living on the unceded sovereign lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. They are currently studying a PhD at the University of Western Australia on the history of the Christmas Island workers’ union. They also volunteer as a history officer at Chung Wah Association, the longest running Chinese community organization in Western Australia.

In the past, they have co-produced participatory theatre (Friendquest, Peaks, Grr Nights), co-founded and managed a literary journal (dotdotdash), conducted living theatre and collaborative performance art projects (Grr, Taberna Lifecraft), and co-curated experimental performance festivals (Grr Nights, Peaks) and group exhibitions (Words Beyond Grammar, Seasons, Histories and Hopes: Imagined Migrant Futures, and Anthologia, the language of flowers). They have had work published in Cottonmouth, Westerly, Sitelines, Australian Poetry, Djed Press, Voiceworks, 4A Journal, and in the Fremantle Press short story collection The Kid on the Karaoke Stage and other Stories. They were the creative producer for Kickstart: The National Youth Week Arts Festival based in Boorloo, and Lotterywest Story Street, a community arts project sharing stories from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.

Their practice is collaborative, interdisciplinary, and literary, concerned with decolonial histories, environmental justice, queer mythology, and divination.
