Nanako Matsumoto

Nanako Matsumoto is a performer and dance artist who work with performance and language - separately and in various combinations as a member of the performance unit “team chiipro”. The group’s artistic practice has centered around the theme of the body and gesture’s potential as a critique. Recent production engages in meticulous research which focuses on a particular movement or dance step from a specific place or time and creates dance works that deal with the intersection of the multiple contexts that these movements or dance steps evoke, as well as the physical sensations and memories of the performers.

Her major works include: Kokyo Running Man (presented at LABO 20#22, 2020), Kyoto Imaginary Waltz (presented at KYOTO EXPERIMENT 2021AUTUMN, 2021), Menstruation Sumo Dance (presented at KYOTO EXPERIMENT 2022, 2022).
