IDA - The Institute of Dance Arts, Anton Bruckner Private University
Anton Bruckner Private University is an innovative arts institution with over 200 years of experience in artistic education. Since 2004, it has been accredited as a private university owned by the province of Upper Austria.
The Institute of Dance Arts (IDA) is part of the university and offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and certificate programs, while also contributing to the PhD program. More than 100 students from around the world study at IDA in an environment that integrates artistic practice, pedagogy, and movement research.
At the core of IDA’s philosophy is the integration of technical craft, pedagogical insight, and artistic development. The BA program prepares informed, critical, and versatile artists in Stage Dance, Performance, and Contemporary Dance Education. Alongside core subjects such as Contemporary Dance and Classical Ballet, students choose from a broad range of electives including Movement Research, Choreography, Physical Theatre, and Project Coaching. These support individual interests and foster interdisciplinary collaboration and creative experimentation.
The Master’s programs emphasize artistic and practice-led research, encouraging students to explore personal topics that bridge theory and practice, while engaging with historical, cultural, and intercultural contexts.
IDA plays an important role in shaping contemporary dance in Austria and internationally, with graduates making lasting contributions across performance, choreography, education, and research.
