Department of Dance, University of Taipei

The Department of Dance was established in 1998 as an academic section of the Taipei Physical Education College (TPEC). In 2013 the TPEC amalgamated with the Taipei Municipal Education University, the oldest university in Taiwan, to form the new University of Taipei (UT). With this change, faculty members and students of the Department of Dance have enjoyed better access to communication and collaboration with artists, educators, and researchers from the School of Arts and Humanities.
In order to help further academic inquiries in dance, in 2004 the department established a Master’s degree program focusing on studies in dance education, arts and humanities, and other related areas. In 2017, the graduate program re-organized its curricular structure to include a new MFA degree in dance performance and choreography.
The department has been exerting a positive and crucial influence on dance education in Taiwan through its growing body of graduates who are committed to their careers in dance that span from performance, choreography, education, somatic practices, to advanced academic research. It has developed into an academic institute with a complete curriculum that yields proficiency and excellency and has been widely acclaimed by the dance field in Taiwan.
