Ari Angkasa (b. 1997, Pekanbaru, Indonesia) is a new media artist based in Naarm-Melbourne (Australia).

Angkasa holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Sculpture) from Monash University and her graduating exegesis To douse the occipital lobe in bleach, was awarded the Les Kossatz Memorial Award along with First-Class Honours. Since completing her studies in 2021, she has exhibited her work widely, with group showings at Gertrude Contemporary, Institute of Modern Art (Meanjin-Brisbane), Bangkok Kunsthalle, Queer East Film Festival (London), and a recent solo exhibition titled Etymology of a Siren Sound at Rare Sea (Ho Chi Minh City). In 2024, her hybrid screen-performance project The Overwoman was shortlisted for the Incinerator Gallery Art Award for Social Change. Angkasa is a studio artist with Naarm-based new media collective PSEUDO, and she has conducted residencies with West Space, Blindside Gallery, and Dance Base Yokohama. She has previously held key curatorial/producer positions with major Australian festivals such as RISING, Hyphenated Biennial, and Soft Centre (Eora-Sydney), and is currently the performance curator at Miscellania, a staple venue in the Naarm underground nightlife scene.

Angkasa’s recent artistic investigations link ideas of transsexual sovereignty with an interest in fish and aviation engineering. She is currently developing a new dance-theatre work titled You can’t swim at the airport with Naarm experimental theatre company APHIDS and Next Wave’s Kickstart program.
