2024 TCAF: Outdoor Performance-Who Stole My Words?

2025-07-04 - 2025-07-04

Award-Winning Script at the 2019 Taipei Children's Arts Festival. A 3-times sold out show attended by 12,000+ spectators.

★ Adapted from playwright Chang Yuan’s personal experiences, using humor and theatrical tension to explore themes of dysgraphia and family education

Stroke by stroke, line by line, but not a word to be found.
Embark on a fantastical journey to the Kingdom of Elves to reclaim the stolen words.

The story follows Gao Bai-Sheng, a straight-A elementary school student who always scores a perfect 100—until one day, an elf named Huei-Huei steals his words. Suddenly, Bai-Sheng finds himself humiliated in front of his entire class, and even his mother, who once took pride in his achievements, struggles to understand his distress. Desperate to prove his innocence, Bai-Sheng tries to show Huei-Huei as evidence, but a misunderstanding leads to a heated argument with his mother. In the chaos, she is accidentally struck by magic and transforms into a foolish woman who believes she’s a duck. With no other choice, Huei-Huei takes Bai-Sheng and his mother to the Kingdom of Elves in search of a cure…

In today's education system, being "good at school" equates to intelligence and becomes a mark of parental pride. On the other hand, struggling in school is often met with disappointment and reprimand. But does academic performance really determine a child's worth? Must a pen be limited to writing alone, or can it also draft the blueprint of one's aspirations?

After three sold-out runs, Who Stole My Words? has been invited to perform at the Taipei Children's Arts Festival, Tainan Arts Festival, Huludun Lacquer Arts Festival, and Kuentai Open Art Festival. Now, it returns once again to the Taipei Children's Arts Festival, promising a fresh experience for audiences young and old! This production uses humor to highlight the struggles of learning disabilities and family education, blending the surrealism of the magical world with the childhood wounds inflicted by an education system that fails to accommodate dysgraphia.

Drawing from his own experiences, the playwright Chang Yuan uses the story to turn the table of fate, bringing courage to the ones striving to change the game.
