2025 TFAM on the Move: Living with Mountains and Waters
As part of the Museum’s annual programming, TFAM on the Move enters local communities to promote art education to the public. This year, the Museum is collaborating with the Taipei Performing Arts Center and has invited contemporary artists to design site-specific, collaborative workshops integrating the appreciation of artworks from the Museum collection with stories from Taipei residents. Through these workshops, artists and participants will create and exhibit artworks reflecting on the year-round daily lives of Taipei residents.
If we imagine Shilin District as a theater, then Zhishanyan, the Tatun volcanic range, and the landscape formed by the Tamsui River, Keelung River, Southern Sulfur Creek and confluence of the Neishuang River and Waishuang River form a stage where local life unfolds hidden within the contemporary metropolis. These features offer clues that guide us into the hidden depths, dreams, and memories of Shilin’s residents.
The Museum selected Lung Sih-Liang’s colorful depiction of Shilin Night Market, once the site of the New Street Settlement established by Zhangzhou migrants, from its collection to serve as the prologue and epilogue for this year’s TFAM on the Move program. Theater designer Lin Jhao-An and contemporary ink artist Kao An Bo were invited to lead separate collaborative workshops for a total of 17 local participants.
Drawing from their recollections of time spent in mountains and forests, as well as cherished memories of wandering through Keelung’s abandoned riverbeds, streams, and irrigation ditches, participants created two sets of site-specific works. Exhibited here at TPAC, they guide visitors along staircases and meandering ramps to evoke the landscapes of mountains and waters dwelling in the hearts of Shilin residents.
