The Liar and the Caged – Searching for a Way out: From A Streetcar Named Desire to Hedda Gabler

Lecture/Talk/Seminar
2026-04-09 - 2026-04-09

Rock Rock Crafting Collective created a modern adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, which continues its classics series from its founding production of A Streetcar Named Desire. These two works depict psychological struggles and human dilemmas across eras. These lectures begin with an exploration of the female protagonist Hedda Gabler’s powerlessness and ultimate act of rebellion under the shackles of marriage and a patriarchal society. Drawing comparisons with A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche DuBois uses fantasies and lies to confront her harsh reality. The focus of these lectures will be on the use of directors’ interpretations, voice acting, and role play in these two works to search for destructive endings brought about by fate related to the times and how these resonate with contemporary audiences.
