★ A twist of the classic legend Nezha Shakes the Seas
★ Humorous mythological characters close to contemporary issues
Have you heard of the story of “Nezha Shakes the Seas?” The young hero, who rides on the Wind-and-Fire Wheels with a fire-tipped spear in his hands, is often described as a fearless troublemaker. Maybe Nezha is just too brave, smart, and stubborn?
In Nezha Shakes the Seas: An Unexpected Legend, Nezha is still the smart and whimsical boy who is often misunderstood as “that rascal who always makes trouble.” And how about the Dragon King of the East Sea? People say he is the villain who causes floods. Nonetheless, it’s not true. It turns out that the Dragon King is so busy dealing with sea pollution and the disrupted weather patterns that he has no time to cause trouble! One day, as the waves lap and the Wind-and-Fire Wheels turn, Nezha and the Dragon King collide with a loud bang! One is the most misunderstood boy on land and the other the hardest-working king in the sea. At first, they do not see eye to eye with each other, but after fighting for some time, they slowly discover many similarities between them and then, they unexpectedly go on an adventure together!
Nezha Shakes the Seas: An Unexpected Legend is produced by V. Theatre Group, a theatre company based in Taichung. Aiming to bring theatre into daily life and lead crowds into theatres, they keep the setting in the classic mythology, re-interpreting an ancient legend from a viewpoint close to everyday life and presenting it in a deft, soft, and flexible style on the stage. Moreover, they blend more unexpected encounters and twists into the plot and use humor and imagination to give the story of Nezha and the Dragon King of the East Sea a new narrative as they drag the audience into this mythological turmoil before embarking on an adventure!
