The award-winning production "Sun and Sea," recipient of the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Biennale, is coming to Taipei Performing Arts Center this summer! From August 19th to 27th, you have the opportunity to become a beachgoer in this legendary and iconic performance.

Taipei Arts Festival:
Since 2018, Taipei Performing Arts Center has been hosting the "Taipei Arts Festival." It is one of the internationally renowned arts festivals, serving as a diverse platform for interdisciplinary artistic collaborations and a creative hub for Taiwanese artists. Each summer, through a series of focused and intensive performances, the festival showcases the spirit and vitality of performing arts culture and community integration, projecting the image of Taipei as a cultural city onto the international stage.
"Sun and Sea":
Program Information:
"Sun and Sea" is an exhibition-opera created collaboratively by three Lithuanian artists, which received the highest honor, the Golden Lion, at the 2019 Venice Biennale. The work portrays a joyful and leisurely beach scene during the summertime while conveying concerns about environmental devastation and climate change. Taipei Performing Arts Center will recreate the scorching sun and sandy beach in the Blue Box Theater from August 19th to 27th, offering an idyllic summer vacation experience. The performance runs for eight days, four hours per day, totaling 32 shows.
Program Synopsis:
In the scorching summer, people in swimsuits, sunglasses, and sun hats lie or sit on the beach, laughing and enjoying the leisurely summer time.
However, as the audience overlooks this beach, they will realize that there is neither sun nor sea. Vocalists lie on the artificial beach, performing in a continuous loop for four hours. While portraying the bliss of a beach vacation, they also sing a warning about the drastic climate change occurring worldwide.

Participation Details:
Participants are required to wear swimsuits. Please bring your own swimwear, towel, shoes, and bag. The colors of clothing and accessories should follow the designated color scheme provided by the production team (refer to the image below). You are welcome to bring beach-related items (not mandatory), such as hats, sunglasses, floaties, beach mats, beach balls, books, magazines, tables, chairs, toys, etc.
Rehearsal Briefing (selected participants must attend!): August 18th, 2023 (Friday) evening. The exact time will be notified after selection.
Performance Schedule: Please choose your registration group based on the available performance schedules that you can accommodate. Regardless of the group, participants must be present for all performances assigned to their group.

Performance Schedule: Please choose the registration group based on the available performance schedule. Regardless of the group, participants must fully commit to all performance sessions within the chosen group.
Payment will be provided to each performer and contracts will be signed after selection.
- Participation in Group A (Rehearsal Briefing + 8-day performances): Fee of NT$15,000 (including tax).
- Participation in Groups B and C (Rehearsal Briefing + 4-day performances): Fee of NT$7,500 (including tax).
