2022TCAF:KINGKONGWAVE somewhere some middle

One day during summer vacation, Ye and his sister are bored at home. They have just moved to the city from the countryside and there are still many boxes stacked in their room. The sudden visit of their neighbor, Mo, breaks the boredom and peace. The three of them are attracted by some things in the boxes and pick up tape, paper tubes, spoons and blankets; something magical starts to happen...

Somewhere Some Middle is the first work of playwright I-Chia Chiu, who won the First Prize of "Play Scripts for Children" at the 2020 Taipei Children's Arts Festival. After Somewhere Some Middle: Family Tour, a pre-production at the 2021 Taipei Children's Arts Festival collaborating with director Yu-Dien Chen of KINGKONGWAVE Production, it is hoped to invite kids and adults to open their senses once again in the 2022 edition. Through physical interaction, they can accompany the protagonist in an imaginary boat for their fantasy journey in the play, and to see the world better.
 

KINGKONGWAVE

Founded by Wei-Yao Hung in 2016, the company is co-established by theatre directors Yu-Dien Chen ,Wei-Chen Sun, and Yen-Ling Wu. KINGKONGWAVE is rooted in live and interdisciplinary art to dialogue with the audience. We create devised, immersive, participatory, and site-specific performances to redefine and reimagine theatricality in different forms. As directors, we each offer unique styles to foster new ways of theatrical participation for audiences and brands across various fields. We are excited to collaborate with corporate developments and communities to envision creative challenges and new voices.
 

I-Chia Chiu
I-Chia Chiu is a writer, devising artist, and educator. She designs artistic processes and products that guide participant-collaborators to practice playfulness and critical thinking for personal growth and social change. Chiu’s practice often draws from her research on diaspora, belonging, and memory through collaboration with audiences and artists across various fields. Chiu is currently based in Taiwan and the virtual world to collaborate with artists across countries. Chiu is Chiu was also a member of the virtual alumni program of International Performing Arts for Youth. She also holds an M.F.A. degree in the Playwriting Program at University of Texas at Austin (USA) and a B.A. in English at National Chenchi University. Website:https://ichiachiu.weebly.com/

Chen Yu-Dien
Chen Yu-Dien is theatre director and a member of KINGKONGWAVE. He received his degree in directing in Taipei National University of the Arts(School of Theatre Arts). His works are diverse in themes, including immersive experiments, magic performances and the traditional music of Nan-Guan, focusing on perceptions beyond speech and often reveals an emotional tension within an intricate structure.
