Blending Taiwanese folk songs, the sentiments of enka, and musical theatre storytelling, the songs become the characters’ inner monologues, singing of love, loneliness, and longing left unspoken.

Mama Sakura, the ever-blooming master of romance on Linsen North Road, runs a Japanese-style hostess bar and has shared one heartfelt romance after another with thousands of people.

What flows amid the laughter and revelry is not only the stirrings of romance, but also the joys, sorrows, and passions of half a century of youth along Tiaotong.
