The concert opens with Toy Symphony by Mozart. Amid the bright cheery string music, the sounds of toy musical instruments mimicking bird calls like “cuck-oo,” “chip-chip,” “croak-croak,” are heard as if we just walked into a forest concert in the fairy tale world, where the sounds of nature dance around our ears. Then they are followed by Twelve Variations on "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman" and while the familiar melody of Do-Do-So-So-La-La-So- keeps repeating, it resonates with both adults and children; through the variations of different chords, the music brings the listeners completely different atmospheres and surprises. Serving as the grand finale, The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky unveils the adventure as the music begins; the little girl meets the Nutcracker Prince and together, they defeat Mouse King and return to the Land of Sweets. Sometimes, the music feels so fiery and passionate and sometimes so brisk and low, weaving itself into fantastic fairy tale scenes in the audience’s minds.
Concert guide is included in the performance, explaining the music to the listeners and helping them understand the stories behind each piece of music. Moreover, the concert is held in a “relaxed manner,” allowing all kinds of physical reactions the listeners have and any sounds they make are tolerated. The aim is to invite people to enjoy music and relax, savoring the moments of pure music and freedom!
A conductorless orchestra, Academy of Taiwan Strings (ATS) is dedicated to promoting the beauty of classical and string music. Without a conductor, the members rely on one another to reach a perfect balance and build a unique charm of music while performing their individual roles with total freedom. In recent years, ATS shattered the stereotype of classical music and launched the Family Concert Series. Moreover, they had integrated ancient Taiwanese indigenous tunes and Taiwanese local elements into their performance, repeatedly changing people’s impression of classical music. ATS invites everyone to enjoy music freely and gain the wonderful listening experience one has never had before!
