"AWW!Taipei City Ball" is a queer carnival. Dancers claim space via rhythm and light, spreading energy. Through battles, they reclaim identity. Bodies declare a firm manifesto, then dissolve back into the city, awaiting the next ball.
A Choreographic Creation of Onomatopoeia: AWW!— A Decade Later, the Sword Is Drawn Once More
“AWW!” — is an exclamatory sound rooted in queer Ballroom culture. It is a collective response from the audience at the very moment a dancer executes a highly demanding physical technique known as a “Dip,” in which the body drops to the floor. In that instant, the entire room points toward the dancer in unison and erupts with an “AWW!” of astonishment.
This sound marks the peak of energy and interaction between performer and spectator. It is recognition, and it is also a gesture of tribute.
In 2016, choreographer Desire (Liu Yu-Cheng) created a dance work based on the concept of 傲 (Aww!). Ten years later, as Taiwan’s Ballroom community has grown stronger and more mature, Desire returns in 2026 with a more refined visual language, a deeper cultural foundation, and an exceptional cast of dancers from Taiwan’s Ballroom scene. Together, they reimagine this pure and extraordinary moment, transforming it into an immersive dance theatre work.
We invite you to share in this dazzling Ballroom moment — and step into the ball.
