Unidentified Flying City

2026-08-23 - 2026-08-26
The creation of "Unidentified Flying City" originated from the recent social changes and wave of emigration in Hong Kong. Playwrights Yiu King Hei and Kong Kwok Kin observed that many Hong Kong people are facing the predicament of diaspora: emotional attachments, the struggle with memories, and the unknown fear of the future. These phenomena prompted the team to reinterpret the theme of “parting” through a comedic sci-fi format, using UFOs as a metaphor to symbolise unpredictable migration and states of existence.
The project draws inspiration from real-life stories, including urban legends from Hong Kong streets and personal experiences. It aims to provoke audiences to reflect on “remembering and forgetting” as well as “staying and leaving” through a whimsical narrative. The exploration of “home” within the work is also expected to resonate with Taiwanese audiences, prompting shared reflection.
BinLo Theatre
BinLo Theatre was officially registered and established in Hong Kong in 2026. It is the successor to Bright Creation Studio (Hong Kong) Company Limited.
The name “BinLo” is derived from the Cantonese term “bin lo” (hotpot), a beloved culinary tradition in Hong Kong. Just as members from diverse backgrounds bring different ingredients to a shared hotpot, they blend together in the theatrical “broth” to create unique and distinctive flavours.
Guided by the principle of “as long as there is a good story,” BinLo Theatre places no restrictions on creators’ backgrounds and adopts a story-centric approach. The company aims to break down barriers arising from differing artistic backgrounds among creators, with the goal of achieving maximum exchange and collaboration.
To realise this vision, BinLo Theatre has continuously participated in the Taipei Fringe Festival from 2025 to 2026, presenting works including "Unidentified Flying City" and “Roundabout“. At the same time, the company has also produced and staged multiple original theatrical performances in Hong Kong. We hope that through theatre as a mirror of society, we can reconnect creators with audiences.
