2022TAF: i wonder

Choreographer Lin I-Chin distills her 3-year study on percussions and their relation to land, body and vernacular identity into the new creation, i wonder.

Her journey began with the revelation of a traditional music score found amongst her grandfather’s archive. Sieving through layers of the past from the pak-kuán music score, I-Chin and her collaborators trace the disjunctures of time in modernity and the complexities of heritage.

Through extensive field research, the team has turned the moving body into a site of encounter between choreography, Taiwanese rituals, customs and vernacular language. How can individual responses to patrimony be forged on the shifting ground that we stand on?

A multitude of the small “i” courses through history and memory - In the face of a broken tune, a fragmented past, how will the body carry this custodianship into the future?

Bare Feet Dance Theatre

Since 2014, Bare Feet Dance Theatre centres its work on the traditional culture, ritual, language, customs, diet, character and climate found in “local Taiwan”. Through different approaches such as local creation, field practices, art education and promotion, etc.; Bare Feet explores and rediscovers the deep connection between the land and the body of its people. Bare Feet attempts to find the kinetic energy fundamental to the human body and rediscover the source of our physical body and our culture, developing the system of the “cultural body”(An- Body Returning the Origin project). With the vision of a contemporary artist, traditional movements undergo “recreation”; extracting a unique essence from contemporary language of art and energy from the Asian body.
