About the Performance
“Pet of the Pet" is filmed in the form of fake documentary. The story is tell by Marie, who live in a busy modern life in the city. In order to maintain the quality of life, she and her husband were too busy to accompany their pet. So chooses to raise rotifers to interact with the it. Thereby solving the psychological problems of pet. In the speculative narrative, rotifers are able to feed on organic matter in the dog's saliva and providing images during feeding, relieve dog’s loneliness. In the play, the image of rotifers constantly turning their cilia to eat echoes the image of modern people’s busy life. Seeking a new, contemporary cultural balance among the needs and dependencies of humans, domesticated species, and microbes.
This film is part of the【Microbe-Mate】project. which presents a possible future that humans dominate microorganisms and raise them as pets. This project contains 7 videos and installations. Through the fiction stories of different situations, it reveals the dilemma faced by modern people and the relationship between human and non-human species. Microbe-Mate aims to question postmodernism through absurd narratives and speculations. Invites the audience to explore human psychological needs, emotions, and morals.
Mark Wang
Possessing a background in physics, industrial design, and graphic design. Graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven, social design department in 2020. Currently a part-time teacher at the experimental school, a microbiology researcher, and an independent artist. Most of the works explore humanity, ethics, and emotional needs through installations, fiction, and films. His works have been selected for the Taoyuan Art Exhibition, National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts - Weiwuying Selection Project, and the book 2020 Dutch Design 100….etc. Participate in exhibitions such as Dutch Design Week in 2020 and 2021, 2022 Rollo- Taiwan.Israel The Rolling Art Project…etc.
