About the Performance

How to define a “home”?

There may be some furniture in a home, although their styles are distinct. There surely are family members with different relationships among them. Furniture is loaded with memories of family members and forms diversified homes.

A “home” seems to be formed by accumulating ceremonies of delivering a message, such as a note, some casually shot photos, or a blessing letter. When daily life is smoothly transformed into language and runs well, the world is endowed with meaning. Can we redefine and recreate our “home”? Please try to imagine a “just right” home, where there are not only comfortable spaces and ideal furniture but also mutual companionships without heavy burden or strict bondage. That’s a home for rest and creation.

This work tries to design some ceremonies that connect pieces of messages related with home and scattered in space and time. Through some short stories about family and furniture, we try to explore the new possibility of defining a “home”, maybe composed of mutual companionships, interpersonal conflicts / alienation / reconnection, and essence of life. We find our sameness and our differences, but we are linked together.

Light in pieces

A team composed of highly sensitive humankind with glass heart, situated in beautiful and horrible world, and good at deconstructing. They long for light penetrating themselves, refracting, and reflecting into the dark.

About the Principal Artists

Han-Yi Chan

My current art works are based on my thinking about media, symbols, and information. My special attention are paid to the problems including how human beings understand information through cognition, how they record things, what kinds of relationships exist between their analogue and digital media, and where they are embodied in the digitalized society. I also concern about narrative, language, and daily life, trying to transform those experiences into various types of creative works.
