SECOND SKIN

2023-09-01 - 2023-09-02
We can fly without wings. Nor do we need superhuman strength. To defy the pull of gravity, a second layer of skin is all it takes.

Manoeuvring through the air slowly in countless twists and turns, aerial dancer Joe searches for the path of inner return. Suspending himself in mid-air for thirty minutes, he examines the subtle relationship between the inner world and the external space by navigating the fascial network underneath the surface.

Second Skin is a bizarre aerial act that taps into a deeper life force from the inmost bodily structure. In the mystical yet soothing live music of cello and handpan, performers will dive deep into their body consciousness to explore the uncharted regions at the borders of acrobatics and dance. Bringing together creative minds and talents from Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, this performance will unveil the boundless possibilities of physical movement.
Lam Wai Ming
Specialized in Aerial Silks, Joe Lam is a professional aerialist who has performed solo acts in US, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong since 2012. Being a finalist competing alongside top aerialists in the US Aerial Championships 2016 in New York City, he won praises such as “technical and movement innovation, masterfully executed, pure art,” from the judges. In the same year he became a circus arts instructor certified by the National Circus School of Canada (École Nationale de Cirque) in Montreal, Canada. Profoundly inspired by Yukiko Komatsu, aka Kaeru, the Aerial Tissu guru in Japan, Joe has developed an authentic meditative style of aerial dance which allows him to reconnect with the stillness within. Often imbued with a sense of Zen-ness, his works reflect his understanding and realizations about life.
