In 2015, the French CN D (National Dance Center), under the leadership of the director and choreographer Mathilde Monnier, initiated the Camping project. Each year, it brings together artists, students from art institutions, professional dancers, and dance enthusiasts from around the world in the form of a summer camp, fostering physical-based exchanges. In 2017, Taipei Performing Arts Center and CN D signed a memorandum of cooperation, jointly organizing Camping Asia. The camp format breaks down the boundaries between institutions, artists, and academies, realizing the core principles of talent cultivation, international exchange, and interdisciplinary dialogue.

About Camping Asia
Origin of Camping Asia
Curatorial Note
The ongoing collaboration and dialogues between the Taipei Performing Arts Center and Centre national de la danse have made Camping Asia return to Taipei after the pandemic. The body has become an urgent medium and tool for speculating what makes this project vital. Through the curatorial, Camping Asia anew presents embodied speculation and knowledge by artists and choreographers and looks at intersections of the artist’s body and expanded choreography. We continue the journey of Camping Asia, while viewing Asia as a verb to enter the art ecosystems.

AN ART ACADEMY FOR THE FUTURE
Invited Schools
Camping Asia brings together art school students from Asia and Europe to practice the concept of "Open for All" across diverse cultures and fields. Every school and every student expects to discover the teaching methods of different schools, the physical appearance of different cultural backgrounds, and the sources of inspiration for creation in different fields during the 12-day camp.
Workshops
Scheduled from Monday to Friday in the afternoon (14:00-18:00), each workshop lasts for five days. The workshop instructors are leading creators from Asia, Europe, Americas, Africa and Oceania who usually possess expertise in two or more fields. They eagerly share their creative experiences and methods during the workshops. Due to this, the course selection phase is always highly competitive.
Performance
Performances presented by most instructors participating in the Camping Asia workshops, translating discussions and concepts from the workshop phase into practical performances. The performance session requires a participation of all campers to find their moments of inspiration in well-prepared performances.
Scheduled from Monday to Thursday in the morning (10:30-12:00), the morning session consists of classes taught by students from various schools, where students autonomously decide the content.
