2024 ADAM Artist Lab in Taipei & Bangkok, Applying Now until 31 Jan!

After several iterations of accommodating international and local artists in Taipei as a cultural field to run the ADAM Artist Lab, for the very first time, the 2024 ADAM Artist Lab will be traveling outside Taiwan.

This edition’s Artist Lab is in collaboration with BIPAM (Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting) and curated by artist and cultural leader Sasapin Siriwanij. Entitled ‘theirborhood’ (a coined word mixed with ‘their’ and ‘neighborhood’), this collective and collaborative program looks at experimental ways of navigating history, herstory and theirstory through space(s). Participating artists will be formed as a working group to visit curated sites, places, communities and neighborhoods to reimagine how the notion of history has shaped where we live in and question ways of sharing common grounds.

Artists have to participate in both phases and do the public sharing in Bangkok (in June) and in Taipei (in August). A final public sharing will be presented as part of the ADAM Gathering in Taipei.

About ADAM

Since 2017, Taipei Performing Arts Center’s critical project ADAM (Asia Discovers Asia Meeting for Contemporary Performance) has worked with artists from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond to build a network and platform of cross-culture and interdisciplinarity and continuously generated various artistic processes.

ADAM Artist Lab is a collaborative, artist-led, and research-based residency program allowing artists with performative practices to think and work together, inventing new ideas and future collaborations. At the end of their residency, participating artists will give a series of public sharing events with their findings to local audiences and international professionals, as part of the ADAM Gathering.

Online Registration for the 2023 ADAM Gathering is NOW OPEN!

The 2023 ADAM Gathering will be physically held on 24-27 August at TPAC. Returning to organizing the in-person gathering on an international scale has concerned the internet of humans and things to work together as a networked body. Therefore, ADAM invites reflection on cultural production in post-pandemic conditions and how arts institutions could work with ecological thinking.

The ‘ADAM Artist Lab’ this year invites Anchi Lin (Ciwas Tahos) and Chen Chen as the guest curators, proposing the theme ‘Watering Intimacy’. It will further explore the connection between body intimacy with nature and queer ecology, focusing on watershed and non-human queer perspectives to re-discuss our relationship and perception with nature.

The ‘ADAM's Kitchen’ showcases the work-in-progress presentations, it encourages and supports the creative process of artists' research, development and try-out, particularly those involving cross-cultural exchanges. This year, it will feature three works: Museum II: Ridden, A Field Guide to Getting Lost in the Southern Universe, and M(Other)hood: A Collective Lecture.

The ‘ADAM's Assembly’ as a platform for performing the knowledge and producing curatorial and artistic discourses of our times, it brings visual artists, performing artists and curators together to think, debate and respond to current issues and socially diverse voices in the art world through a series of talks, workshops and dialogues.
