National Taiwan University of the Arts
This school, formerly known as the National School of Arts, was founded on October 31, 1955. It was restructured and upgraded continuously throughout the years and was renamed as National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA) on August 1st, 2001.
With a history of 68 years, NTUA’s development has been tantamount to writing a book on art history in the modern Taiwan era. A s the oldest art institute in Taiwan’s higher education, NTUA is a key centre of art education in Taiwan providing the most specialized academic disciplines.
In the formative years of the institution, many influential masters such as Mei-Shu Lee, Chi-Chun Liao, Shih-chiao Lee, Tze-Fan Lee, Jui-Lin Hung, Fu-Chuan Fu, Yu-Yu Yang, Kwei-li Huang , Pau-Chia Lin, Yi-Wei Yao, Chang-Guo Deng, Robert Scholz and Tian- Min Lee engaged with NTUA education and created a comprehensive art environment to breed innumerable talents in the art field.
The NTUA has numerous outstanding alumni over the years, including well-known Oscars Best Director's Award of 78th and 85th sessions winner Ang Lee. And many other successful musicians, artists, and designers such as Hsiao-Hsien Hou, Toon Wang, Shui-Long Ma, Tzong-Ching Ju, Wen-Pin Chien, Tscheng-Hsiung Chen, Erh-Ping Tsai, Cheng-Feng Guo. Their exceptional performances are not only the pride of their alma mater, but also a display of the contribution of this school toward art education.
Department of Dance, National Taiwan University of the Arts
National Taiwan University of Arts is the first art university in Taiwan that combines the School of Communication, the School of Fine Arts, the School of Performing Arts and the School of Design. Since the establishment of the school, it has continuously promoted the interaction between the community, schools and enterprises, hoping to activate the development of local culture and art with the spirit and achievements of academic research. The Department of Dance, formerly known as the "Dance Department of National Taiwan Academy of Arts", is the first public dance education institution in Taiwan. The purpose is to teach professional dance performance talents, and to teach various professional dance knowledge. It also offers related courses such as Chinese and Western dance history, dance notation, movement analysis, art administration, theater practice, etc., to bring students more diversified dance professional knowledge and skills.
Graduate Institute of Transdisciplinary Performing Arts, National Taiwan University of the Arts
This program aims to provide students with solid academic transdisciplinary training in music, dance, drama, Chinese traditional opera, folklore and acrobatics, and other art disciplines. Students are encouraged to examine issues relating to the performing arts from global and local perspectives. This will help them develop profound observation skills, critical judgment, creative practicality, and the ability to integrate a variety of disciplines into their work. These will prepare students for careers in research institutes, artistic organizations, communication media, publishing, and performing arts groups.
