The Shu-Te University Department of Performing Arts was established in 2006 and began enrolling students in 2007.  It is the first collegiate department of performing arts in Taiwan to integrate music, dance, drama, and production.  Our goal is to cultivate creative, technical, and executive professionals in performing arts (both on stage and behind the scenes) that meet the needs of the current performing arts market.  Through industry-academic collaboration, and by reaching out to Chinese speaking societies such as Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Macao, over the past fifteen years the Shu-Te University Department of Performing Arts has become an important cradle for cultivating the performing arts in Taiwan and throughout the region.  Throughout the years, our department has received numerous prestigious awards from the Taiwan Ministry of Education and continues to excel in the academic world.

The establishment of the Shu-Te University Department of Performing Arts is based on the premise of integrating various performing arts elements.  Through the combination of majoring and minoring in various performing arts fields and the appropriate curriculum design, students are better able to join the cultural and creative industry from a comprehensive perspective after four years of complete cross-disciplinary training on and off stage.  At the same time, it also provides performing arts professionals with an international perspective for southern Taiwan, and strengthens the integrity and comprehensiveness of performing arts works.  In summary, the Shu-Te University Department of Performing Arts aims to implement its educational philosophy based on performance practice and supplemented by performance theory, and to cultivate creative, outstanding, cross-field professionals in performing arts.

Since its establishment, the Shu-Te University Department of Performing Arts has actively participated in the development of the performing arts and the cultural environment of southern Taiwan, has strengthened the connection between teachers and students and arts and cultural institutions all through industry-university cooperation, and continues to achieve domestic and international exposure and success through its involvement in performances and competitions.
