Workshop Description

Body as Storyteller
The "Body as Storyteller" course explores expressing emotions, narratives, and artistry through body and dance. Students develop a movement vocabulary to effectively convey stories on stage. Topics include emotional expression, narrative structure, character portrayal, spatial dynamics, and symbolism. Suitable for both experienced dancers and performers interested in physical expression. Through this course, participants gain the ability to share stories using their bodies in an expressive and impactful manner.

A Brief Biography of Artist

Taiwan|Peng Shihya

Born in Taoyuan, Taiwan, she began dancing at 8 and studied ballet, contemporary, and Chinese traditional dance. In 2004, she joined Cloud Gate Dance Theatre's "Seeds Dancer" program.
Shihya graduated from the University of Taipei (Taiwan) Dance Department in 2008. In 2009 she earned a scholarship for a Modern Dance master's at the University of Utah. As a Teaching Assistant, she taught contemporary dance to non-majors and received a scholarship from the American Dance Festival. She later established herself as an independent artist in France in 2012.
In France, she performed with renowned venues worldwide like Festival d'Automne in Paris, Biennale de la danse Lyon, ImpulsTanz Vienna, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She collaborated with notable choreographers including Honji Wang/Sebastien Ramirez, François Chaignaud/Cecilia Bengolea, and Tânia Carvalho etc...
In 2023, she collaborated with Japanese-French based director Atsuhiko Watanabe on the award winning short film TELOS, celebrated at international film festivals. Since 2009, she taught in Taiwan, the US, and France. Her teaching philosophy emphasises movement quality, storytelling through dance, spatial awareness, and self-other consciousness.
