Workshop Description

In this workshop, Calixto Neto will focus on the sharing of practices that were presenting on his last projects (one of which will be presented on Camping Asia). Trying to approach the themes from the decolonial perpective, the workshop will approach themes such as dealing with memory through reenactment, embodiment of an archive, how to appropriate a repertoire, how to go away from the supremacy of the sight to learn and create dance and wake up other senses to develop performative skills. Drawing inspiration from other pieces by Calixto, participants will explore the complex interplay between voice and movement, delving into notions of dissociation and manipulation.

A Brief Biography of Artist

Brazil & France｜Calixto Neto
With a degree in theater from the Federal University of Pernambuco, then in dance from the Grupo Experimental de Dançaa in Recife, Brazilian choreographer and performer Calixto Neto followed the Master ex.e.r.ce at the CCN in Montpellier between 2013 and 2015, where he created the solo petites explosions.  A member of Lia Rodrigues' company between 2007 and 2013, he is also a performer with Mette Ingvartsen, Anne Collod and Ève Magot. Interested in representations of the black body and anti-colonial discourse, Calixto has developed his own work in the pieces oh!rage, Outrar (in collaboration with by Lia Rodrigues), Feijoada and IL FAUX, as well as in the films O Samba do Crioulo Doido: ruler and compas and Pro Futuro Quilombo.
