OUR INNER LANDSCAPES
In the Body Inner Landscape workshop, Melati Suryodarmo offers a transformative and artistic journey. This workshop invites participants to tap into their own unique body inner landscapes, which are influenced by personal experiences, cultural backgrounds, and history. Through a series of exercises, participants delve into the symbolism and significance of their bodies, uncovering hidden narratives and connecting with their personal directions.
Suryodarmo encourages participants to engage in processes that incorporate movement, space and time, ultimately leading to a heightened state of self-connection. Through these processes, participants gain their own power and agency as they explore the boundaries of their bodies.
Melati Suryodarmo's performance art workshop on the body inner landscape provides a space for new discovery, personal reflection and collective exploration. It offers a unique opportunity for participants to engage with their bodies as vessels of meaning and to unlock the transformative potentials.

A Brief Biography of Artist

Indonesia｜Melati Suryodarmo
Melati Suryodarmo's performances have been dealing with the relationship between a human body, a culture in which it belongs to and a constellation where it lives. Through the presence, she compiles, extracts, conceptualized and translates some phenomenon or subjects into movement, actions, and gestures that are specified to her performance. Her performances concern with cultural, social and political aspects, in which she articulates through her psychological and physical body. Her performances feature elements of physical presence and visual art to talk about identity, energy, politics and relationships between the body and its environments.
Since the last six years, Suryodarmo has been presenting her works in Indonesia and other South East Asian countries. For the Padepokan Lemah Putih Solo Indonesia, she has been organizing an annual Performance Art Laboratory Project and “undisclosed territory” performance art event in Solo Indonesia since 2007. In 2012, she founded “Studio Plesungan” an art space for performance art laboratory. She was working as the Artistic Director of the Jakarta Biennale 2017, one of the core visual arts biennale in South East Asia and Artistic Director of the Indonesia Bertutur 2022 and 2024, Indonnesia Festival of the Arts ad Culture.
