Laundry Days

2026 ADAM Artist Lab is co-curated and facilitated by artists Ness Roque (the Philippines) and Lee Ming-Chen (Taiwan), leading 7 performing and interdisciplinary artists from Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Japan in a two-city residency in Manila and Taipei. The Lab provides the artists with a creative environment in which they meet each other, exchange their experiences, engage in cross-cultural dialogues, explore, and research their works.

Entitled “Laundry Days”, the program invites artists to reimagine ways of connecting with things, people, and social landscapes in the context of arts not merely as the creation of something new but also as sorting, inspecting, soaking, washing, removing dirt, drying, hanging, and folding. Perhaps one brings their laundry to a river where people gather, or to a self-service laundry to watch clothes spin and observe other baskets. This Lab proposes how a collective process could transform temporary residency and gathering and what “laundry” as an attitude or methodology would feel like. The lab is an invitation for artists to be fully present with one another––seeing, listening, feeling, and doing laundry together––while they get to know Manila, Taipei, and beyond.

Guest Curator: Lee Ming-Chen

Working in theater production, performance and graphic art, Lee Ming-Chen has created and presented performances under the name of 風格涉 / 社 (FONG KO SHE) since 2009. Meanwhile, he has been invited to collaborate or co-create as a director or consultant in a diverse range of fields, including contemporary theater, performing arts, visual arts, sound and audiovisual arts. His works focus on the cognitive texts and magical performances/narratives of the experience scene, as well as their relationship with people and the interaction of the performance. He experiments with creative approaches in various fields through collective improvisation. He draws materials from life situations and daily life, focusing on the ambiguity and its synesthesia, and using theater art as a medium and creative method. Recently he has more performing arts regarding language produced by art and contemporary techniques, as well as the contemporary Taiwanese identity perception and mixed culture/reality.

Guest Curator: Ness Roque

Born in Angeles City, Philippines, Ness is an actor, dramaturg, and educator. She received the MEXT scholarship grant and completed her MA in Arts Studies and Curatorial Practices at Tokyo University of the Arts. Her works often explore decolonial and feminist perspectives, and international collaboration.

Recent performances include YEMAYA, a Filipino translation of Quiara Alegría Hudes’ Yemaya’s Belly (9Works Theatrical; Manila, 2026), and Toshiki Okada’s Window of the Spaceship ‘In-Between’ (chelfitsch; Tokyo, Kyoto, Wuzhen, Brussels, Seoul, Paris; 2023–2025).

Her recent dramaturgical projects include Sta. Juana ng mga Katayan, an adaptation of Brecht’s St. Joan of the Stockyards (Ateneo ENTABLADO; Manila, 2026), and Sari-Sali Portal Cafe (Philippine Educational Theater Association – PETA and BRDG; Kinosaki and Manila, 2023–2024). She is also a co-founder of the interdisciplinary collective Salikhin Kolektib.

Her notable film performances include Giancarlo Abrahan’s Mag-iina (Cinemalaya, 2026) and Raya Martin’s Now Showing (Cannes, 2008).

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Literature - Filipino from the Ateneo de Manila University and studied Theater Arts at the Philippine High School for the Arts.
